IPL 6: Mumbai beats RCB by 58 runs as Bangalore’s top order fails
Mumbai: Dhawal Kulkarni’s superb bowling performance helped Mumbai Indians rout Royal Challengers Bangalore by 58 runs in their match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Chasing a massive 195-run target, Royal Challengers Bangalore lost their top order in quick succession. After a decent opening start, 4 wickets fell in just 3 overs, this which proved instrumental in their losing the match.
For hosts Mumbai, local-boy Dhawal Kulkarni struck thrice early in the innings to almost single-handedly ruined the RCB run chase. The pacer got rid of De Villiers and Kohli in the eighth over to reduce Bangalore to 43/4 in 7.4 overs.
Ambati Rayudu took a well-judged catch near the boundary rope off Harbhajan's delivery to help Mumbai dismissed the dangerous Gayle soon after Kulkarni gave Mumbai their first breakthrough in the previous over.
Kulkarni dismissed Dilshan in the sixth over after RCB openers Dilshan and Gayle failed to provide a quick start for Bangalore as they managed just 35 runs in 5.4 overs.
Electing to bat, Dwayne Smith, Dinesh Karthik and Kieron Pollard came up with brisk knocks to power Mumbai Indians to 194/7.
Mumbai now go up the table with 5 wins from 8 matches to 4th position. RCB are still on top of the table with 6 victories in 9 matches. But Mumbai’s stellar performance tonight has once again proved that RCB fail to perform outside the Bangalore.
