Mohali: In what turned to be a cracker of a game, Team India thrashed England by five wickets to win the fourth ODI at Mohali on Wednesday. Suresh Raina(89*) and Rohit Sharma(83) guided India to a win with 15 balls to spare. With a win at Mohali, Team India has also clinched the five-match ODI series by 3-1 against England.
After being asked to bat first, England’s middle-order failed to impress yet again. But, with Alastair Cook(76) and Kevin Pietersen(76) coming good, England managed to post a healthy target of 258 runs after 50 overs. The youngster Joe Root played a blistering knock of 57 runs off 61 deliveries to get England back in the game.
For India, Ravindra Jadeja was yet again the star amongst bowlers as he scalped three wickets in his spell of 10 overs after conceding 39 runs. Ishant Sharma and R Ashwin took two wickets each.
While India began their run-chase, Gautam Gambhir got out after a bad umpiring decision as Bresnan got the first wicket for England. Later on, James Tredwell scalped Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh to get India on the backfoot.
But, Rohit Sharma played a highly-awaited innings of 83 runs before getting out LBW by Steven Finn. Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni made a healthy partnership to keep India alive in the encounter.
After Dhoni got caught at backward point by Eoin Morgan, Suresh Raina played the anchor role as he slammed a knock of 89 runs off 79 deliveries including nine boundaries and one six. Ravindra Jadeja also contributed with his unbeaten knock of 21 runs to get India home in 47.3 overs.
Suresh Raina was awarded the Man of the Match trophy for his contribution with the bat.
