Duped by prank call, Duchess Kate’s hospital nurse commits 'suicide'
New Delhi: The nurse who gave out information about the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton during a prank call with Australian DJs allegedly committed suicide on Friday. Jacintha Saldanha's body was found at an address in Weymouth Street, London, which is around the corner from King Edward VII Hospital on Beaumont Street. The cops described the circumstance of her death as "unexplained."
“It is with very deep sadness that we confirm the tragic death of a member of our nursing staff, Jacintha Saldanha,” said the statement, which was released by the hospital's public relations firm. The hospital confirmed that Saldanha was the “victim of a hoax call to the hospital” placed by two Australian DJ s posing as the Queen and her son Prince Charles. Saldanha, a nurse who was manning the reception desk at 5:30am, put the call straight through to the Duchess of Cambridge’s private nurse, who openly discussed the Duchess’ condition.
A recording of the call by Sydney presenters Mel Grieg and Michael Christian was later broadcast on the radio program 2Day FM. The recording, which quickly went viral online, was a major embarrassment for the hospital, which has treated many members of the royal family, and this was perhaps the reason for Jacintha Saldanha to embrace suicide.
The statement went on to say that CEO Rhys Holleran had spoken with the two DJs, who are "deeply shocked and at this time we have agreed that they not comment about the circumstances. SCA and the hosts have decided that they will not return to their radio show until further notice out of respect for what can only be described as a tragedy."
Kate Middleton spent three days being treated for acute morning sickness at Sister Agnes. A call to an ambulance was placed at 9:35 am, but the married mother of two died on the scene despite paramedics’ attempts to revive her.
Two Australian DJs, Mel Greig and Michael Christian of Sydney station 2Day FM, called the hospital earlier this week and pretended to be Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles asking to be put through to the ward. They were then given an update on Kate’s health by the deceased nurse.
