Pakistani Taliban announces job opportunities via Facebook
Islamabad: Looks like the Taliban is striving hard to benefit from social media websites as they have set up a page on Facebook to hire professionals to write for their quarterly magazine. The Facebook page also invited applications for video editors. Created somewhere in September 2012, the Umar Media TTP page has only few messages in English.
A post written on October 25 says, “Umar Media is proud to announce online jobs oppertunities (sic).”
The Umar Media TTP page, which has nearly 290 likes, also posted a message on November 22 seeking writers for "Ahyah-e-Khilafat". The publication has been described as the "official quarterly magazine" of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan. The Facebook post provides nature of the job as, “Job discription (sic) is video editing, translations, sharing, uploading, downloading and collection of required data,” it says, giving an email address and asking readers to “plz spread it. This fb account ma be deleted.”
Another post on the Facebook page says, "Dear brothers and sisters, 'Pen is mightier than the sowrd (sic)'. Now you have a chance to use this mighty weapon".
US-based private intelligence organisation SITE too confirmed that the Pakistani Taliban use Facebook as "a recruitment centre".
This comes after the TTP claimed responsibility for an attempt to assassinate teenage rights activist Malala Yousufzai in October. She is now being treated in a British hospital after being shot in her head.
