Teacher posts video resignation lambasting education system, finds support from across the globe
Illinois, US: A teacher in US blasted the education system for neglecting the welfare of children.
In a video posted on video-sharing website, YouTube the teacher said that the present education system focuses on tests rather than the overall development of the child.
The teacher, Ellie Rubenstein posted the video after she was told that she would be transferred to other school against her wish.
The ten-minute long video shows the fourth grade teacher said she had to 'get out before her sense of self and self-worth was completely obliterated.'
The former teacher was quoted saying on Daily Mail: 'Raising students' test scores on standardized tests is now the only goal, and in order to achieve it the creativity, flexibility and spontaneity that create authentic learning environments have been eliminated.
The video has gone viral and attracted over 3,35,000 viewers.
Many viewers agreed with Rubenstein's point of view and lambasted the education system.
"You are amazing! Hope this video reach a lot more people and initiate change... for a change :)", read one of the comment of the reader.
The concern of the teacher were resonated by people from all across the globe. A viewer from France said, "Thank you, very moving. My heart goes out to you as well. I am a teacher in southern France and we are struggling with many of the same problems and issues here. I know you will have a brilliant future in the world of education... You have so much to offer and you have the RIGHT take on what is important for kids and leering. Getin touch, if you'd like. All best wishes going forward."
The immense popularity of the video made Rubenstein repost the following message along with the YouTube video:
The outpouring of love and support is overwhelming. I originally intended for this video to be watched by my administrators and my community; I had no idea it would reach so many. The thousands of stories already shared with me from around the globe that mirror my own are both critical and heartbreaking. I cannot change the system from within, so I leave to allow myself to continue teaching in my way, on my terms. I never planned on giving up, and I never will.
