Jaipur: The American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI), a premier medical association in America representing over 60,000 doctors, will hold its fourth Indo-US Healthcare Summit in Jaipur between January 3 and January 5, 2011, at the Birla Auditorium.

Jaipur, the location for the fourth summit, is the first city the AAPI has accredited as centre for medical tourism.

AAPI president Ajeet R Singhvi said the primary goal of the summit is to raise awareness of key healthcare issues affecting the Indian subcontinent, such as diabetes, lung diseases, asthma and allergies, cardiovascular diseases, women's and children's health and cancer.
Singhvi also highlighted the summit's task to "create a prototype programme of implementation for various disease categories specifically designed to improve outcomes while maintaining cost-effectiveness."

When successful, the programme can be deployed nationally and internationally.
Elaborating on the concept, Dr Jayesh Shah, AAPI secretary, said, "The 4th Indo-US health summit will bring doctors of high calibre from both countries together to improve healthcare in India.

AAPI, through Indo-US summits, has made visible contributions to healthcare in India. This time, we will be working towards bringing curriculum of some needed fellowship programmes, like infectious diseases, allergy and immunology, geriatrics and wound care and hyperbaric medicine in India."

Following the previous three successful AAPI health summits, all held in New Delhi, the fourth one is supported by the Union health ministry, ministry of overseas Indian affairs and the government of Rajasthan.

Apex Indian medical bodies, Indian Medical Association (IMA) and Medical Council of India (MCI) and other organisations, which partnered in the earlier summits, will team up again for the summit.

The AAPI is committed to providing logistic support for development of health tourism in India, a choice destination as it provides state-of-the-art amenities for treatments like hip or knee replacements and cardiac surgery, high qualities of healthcare infrastructure and low costs.
