Union Minister to inaugurate BRTS corridor on Sikar Road
Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy is likely to dedicate the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) corridor on Sikar Road to the public today. Chief minister Ashok Gehlot, Urban Development and Housing Minister Shanti Dhariwal, UDH Principal Secretary GS Sandhu, Jaipur Development Authority Commissioner Sudhansh Pant and city mayor Jyoti Khandelwal will also attend the function.
The 7.1 km corridor is part of the BRTS project under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), in which 46 km dedicated corridors are to be constructed only for rapid transport. Reddy will also flag-off the buses that will run in these corridors. Pant said that the corridor would help Jaipurites a lot as they will reach their destination on time.
However, the JDA worked with slow pace on BRTS project. Almost four years passed since the project was sanctioned, yet the authority could not complete the project and works on two phases of corridors are still pending. Furthermore the authority took almost two years to dedicate this 7.1 km-long corridor to public. "All's well that ends well. We are going to dedicate the corridor to public for commuting and very soon work on other corridors will start," said JDA official.
Jaipur bus project under JNNURM will also be dedicated to the people. Jaipur City Transport Service Limited was running 180 buses on trial basis in the city so far.
