PHOTOS: Stampede at Chhat Puja in Patna; 10 dead including 4 children

Patna: At least 17 people were killed and many others injured in a stampede on Monday at Adalatghat here on the bank of river Ganga during Chhath puja. The stampede occurred when panicked devotees rushed for safety after a make-shift bridge caved in at the ghat.

Bihar Chief Secretary A K Sinha told a press conference on Monday night that the incident, which occured at around 7 PM on Monday, claimed ten lives.
He said bodies of four children and a woman were kept at Patna Medical College Hospital.
Earlier in the day, Senior Superintendent of Police (SP), City, Jayant Kant, had put the toll at 14.
