New Delhi:An Indian-born American was found murdered after claiming a massive USD one billion lottery. Urooj Khan died after high level of cyanide was administered presumably in his food.
Urooj Khan won a USD one million after scoring on Illinois lottery scratch ticket, in July. Khan was an Indian immigrant described as a well-liked, hardworking and successful businessman. He would have to wait a few weeks to collect his actual winnings, which amounted after taxes to about $425,000.
Initially, investigating agencies described the death as natural. However, the instigation was reopened after family member suspected foul play in Urooj's death.
He wanted to use the money for mortgage, paying off bills, a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and investing more in his dry cleaning businesses.
Urooj Khan came started screaming in the night after he had his dinner. Concerned family members took him to hospital, where he was later pronounced as dead.
Chicago police is investigating the case after they found cyanide in the blood samples of Urooj Khan.
