Following in the footsteps of her BFFs Twinkle Khanna and Sussanne Roshan, Gauri Khan has decided to make a career out of interior designing. She may not have the right qualifications, but she certainly has the makings of an interior designer. Gauri, who has designed interiors for her friends, is confident of her skills and that’s precisely why she had bagged her first commercial interior designing project with Pune-based Kolte Patil Developers Ltd (KPDL). And now, she will be busy designing couture penthouses in Pune.

Gauri has been quoted as saying, “I have designed interiors of my home and homes of friends. But this is my first commercial project. This is the first time I have been signed on by a company. This will be a project with real deadlines and budget. Here I will be answerable and accountable for my work.”

Sounds interesting! But doesn’t this defy the necessity of having a professional qualification that helps one work on their confidence level as they offer students tailored guidance and know-how to accomplish the given task? And what about the key principles of design and decoration?

Going by how Gauri turned interior designer, one needn’t just depend on a professional course to turn a dream into reality. Agreed, professional training will help you learn a lot about space planning to scale and elevation, designs, styles, the historical perspective, fabrics, lighting, etc, but what about one’s interest? Obviously, one can’t be compelled to work with passion and zeal, for it is innate.

Gauri, we appreciate your efforts, but we really don’t know if this development will impress those who mint money by offering course in interior design. We are sure they will be busy working on designing a cutting-edge interior design course.
