Dehradun: Narayan Pargaien, an experienced journalist of a TV news channel is in dock for reporting the Uttarakhand tragedy perched on the shoulder of local, fears that the footage uploaded on YouTube and Facebook may cost him job. While he acknowledges that what he did was journalistically wrong, he said that cameraperson’s joke or simply a wrong camera angle is the reason for the trouble he is facing.
In an interview with website News Laundry, he said that it was pre-decided that the cameraperson would take the footage only up to the chest, not of the man holding him on the shoulder. He also said that it was not his initiative to have called the man to take him to the river on his shoulder, but it was the man himself who insisted, for he wanted to do something for him as he was aiding him with money and food.
“This was entirely the cameraman’s fault, who, it seems, almost tried to sabotage my career by shooting from that distance and angle and releasing the video mocking this whole incident, and making me the villain,” he told News Laundry.
He said that he had given the man Rs 50 for his service, an argument that has brought more criticism for the journalist battered by his seniors’ jibes and jokes.
He is waiting for his fate, which seems not so bright with all the bad name he has brought to the channel he is working for.
