New Delhi: A Class 6 textbook published by reputed S Chand publishers is likely to heat up the debate between morality in vegetarianism v/s non-vegetarianism once again. The textbook seems to be supporting the ideas of the khap leader, who recently linked eating chow mein to rape incidents.
Class 6 textbook slams non-vegetarians

The textbook — New Healthway — Health, Hygiene, Physiology, Safety, Sex Education, Games and Exercises, incidentally blames the non-vegetarians for the evils in the society.
In one of the chapters, for example it says: "They cheat, tell lies, they are dishonest and tell bad words, steal, fight and turn to violence, they forget promises and commit sex crimes.'' That's not all - on the same page 56, the book goes on to credit the tastiness of meat by saying that "it is the waste products which largely produce the flavour of meat."
Surprisingly, Japan being known as the land of sushi and sea food, is lauded in the book, which says that the Japanese have longer life span, due to their vegetarian food habits.
"They are vegetarians and live longer than most other peoples. The generous use of green leafy vegetables, soya beans and grams has helped the people to maintain vigour, strength and endurance throughout the centuries'' – sans the mention of fish in Japanese diet.
Time for some moral lessons as well! The book states that the perfect marriage-age for girls is between 18 to 25 years.
Notably, the National Textbook Council was asked to oversee and approve content but that was rejected by states earlier this year. Also, S Chand hasn’t commented on this.
