New Delhi: First police tried not to register her complaint of rape but after media pressure they sprung into action. Initial investigations have revealed that the 24-year-old Rwandan girl was raped several times inside and outside a car by four men. All the four accused have been arrested, police said on Friday.
According to the police the accused abducted the girl from Timarpur area and raped her several times.
The girl was staying in Timarpur area with her Somalian brother since October. She was trying to get a refugee status in India.
On the evening of December 1, she went to to Gandhi Vihar market . There four men forced her into their car. They drove to the Yamuna river bank, and repeatedly raped her. Later, all of them escaped, leaving her there in the night.
Somehow, the victim approached the police the same night, but police did not register her complaint. Police registered the case on December 3.
A police officer who was on duty that night but did not register the complaint was transferred to police lines for dereliction of duty.
According to the police all the accused are in their early twenties and the car used in the crime has been impounded.
