New Delhi: Ever thought of learning Maths and Science through Sports? Well, former Indian cricket team captain and chairman of the selection committee of the Indian cricket team, Kris Srikkanth has made this union between sports and education a reality.
The former Indian cricketer has recently launched an e-learning initiative which uses sports, particularly cricket, to enhance management and leadership skills of students.
He has come up with www.edustrokes.com, for learning Maths and Science in a unique way. Another portal which uses the “language of cricket’ for career enhancement and personality development is www.careerstrokes.com.
The renowned cricketer is in Delhi for a Special Address at The National Education Summit 2011, an initiative by the Dainik Bhaskar Group. “It gives me immense pleasure to be associated with initiative taken by the Dainik Bhaskar Group.”
We caught up with him to get more insights into his unique and novel initiative.
What is the concept behind edustrokes.com andcareerstrokes.com?
These initiatives have been launched to use the language of cricket for career enhancement and personality development. The medium of cricket is used to enhance the soft, management, leadership, and communication skills of students. Cricket and Sports will give real examples to students. Science and Physics will be taught to students through the medium of Sports. There will be videos and interactive sessions which will make learning an exciting and enjoyable experience for students. Through the audio video medium students will easily understand a particular topic.

You are a qualified engineer and still you chose cricket over a degree…
Cricket is my passion. I never wanted to become a cricketer but I became one as it was my passion, which is now my profession.
Sometimes it is difficult for students to choose their passion over profession. What is your advice for such students?
A student should choose only that career in which they have interest and what they really want to do. If they are passionate about something, they will definitely succeed in it. They should choose a career which they enjoy. Do not pursue something just for the sake of it. If you’ll not enjoy something then you will not be successful in it.
There are so many cricket academies mushrooming in every nook and corner. What factors should a student should keep in mind before choosing one?
Since most of them are driven by monetary purposes, students should choose one which will actually give them training. Look for the coach and the in-charge of that academy and then opt for it.
Apart from cricket what are the other sports in which a student can make a career?
These days, there is a lot of interest in Tennis, Football, Badminton and Athletics. The more the champions our country produces in different fields, the more interest we create in different sports.
