While the D-Day refers to a big day in a person’s life, it refers to Dawood Ibrahim in the crime world. Nikhil Advani’s soon to be released crime thriller D Day has Rishi Kapoor in the role of Dawood Ibrahim. The film after Ram Gopal Verma’s D Company brings the underworld don Dawood Ibrahim in the spotlight again.
Dawood Ibrahim’s links with Bollywood have never been a secret affair. Several Bollywood stars have been found having connections with the underworld. While Sanjay Dutt has been sent to jail for his role in the 1993 Mumbai blasts masterminded by Dawood Ibrahim, Salman Khan and Anil Kapoor have been spotted with the most dreaded criminal of the world.
Actress Mandakini was rumoured to have a relationship with Dawood Ibrahim and was spotted with the don at several occasions.
The underworld mafia has been known for stopping release of films and threatening stars for money. The goons used to pressurize the filmmakers to give their overseas sale to their fake companies.
When Hrithik Roshan’s father Rakesh Roshan did not agree to give a share of the profits from the overseas sale of the Hindi blockbuster, Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai to mafia don Budesh, the underworld goons attacked him. On January 21, 2000, Rakesh Roshan was shot in arm and chest by two Budesh gang members near his office in Mumbai. The attack on Roshan was not undertaken to prove that the Shiv Sena could no longer protect its clients.
However, what remains the most gruesome crime in Bollywood was the brutal killing of T-series owner Gulshan Kumar by the underworld. Not only this fillmaker Gulshan Rai’s son was also attacked by the mafia.
