Amidst much-anticipation and curiosity, the music of Red Chillies Entertainments’ most ambitious venture till date ‘Ra.One’ was unveiled in true Shahrukh Khan style at Film City, Mumbai.
A breath-taking dance performance from the cast - SRK, Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal captivated the hearts of the audience. Post this; the film music was released by SRK’s close friend and filmmaker Karan Johar.
Undoubtedly, SRK left no stone unturned to promote his film – be it his jaw-dropping dance number or revealing tantalizing trivia about his film. Interestingly, amidst all this, SRK also managed to croon few lines of Akon’s famous number ‘Smack That’.
Here are a few excerpts from King Khan’s interview at the grand music launch of ‘Ra.One’.
What is ‘Ra.One’ all about?
“Ra.One is the modern, new age technology version of our mythological ‘Raavan’, who was a mixture of ten different evil characters. Because it is a sci-fi flick, ‘Ra.One’ will be seen with all these features but with a touch of advanced technologies and tools. I am essaying the role of ‘G.One’ or better say ‘Jeevan’, a superhero who saves the mankind from Ra.One’s torment. Through this film, I want to prove that Indian superheroes can also be as cool as the international ones.
On copying Akon
Much before the film trailor was out, ‘Ra.One’ grabbed all the eyeballs after news broke out of superstar rapper Akon lending his voice for ‘Chammak Challo’ number in SRK’s home production. When asked whether he imitates the R&B singer in his free time, SRK vehemently denied saying he can never copy such a talented singer. However, on probing further, he quipped, “Initially, I never noticed the lyrics of Akon’s famous number ‘Smack That’. One day Aryan (son) asked me to sing a few lines of the song. That’s when I realized that the song also includes a few vulgar words in it.
Talking about the film’s music, SRK said, “It was completely Vishal-Shekhar’s idea to rope in Akon to sing the ‘Chammak Challo’ number. In fact, once they came to me and said that though the song is in Hindi, they would compose such lyrics that would be easier for Akon to sing. And to my surprise, it took only 4-5 hours of training and Akon was ready with the masterpiece for the film.
On his costume
Yeah, I had to go through several problems while shooting in that rubber-made costume which was specially designed for my character. The costume was designed in a way that I had to take the help of girls to get into it and vice-versa. I wasn’t allowed to eat or drink much in between the shoots and at times I wasn’t even allowed to attend nature’s call. By the time, the shooting of the film was wrapped up; I ended up losing ten kilos.
Interestingly, apart from talking about his film, King Khan also chose to talk about his close pals and most importantly his wife Gauri Khan. Surprisingly, when the anchors asked SRK to describe how he would name his wife and pals in terms of superheroes, here’s what SRK replied.
Gauri Khan: I would call Gauri a ‘wonder woman’ for tolerating me for so long & for spending 10 long years with me.
Arjun Rampal: The ‘Incredible Hunk’ is what I can call Arjun. In fact, it’s Arjun who’s thesurprise package of the film. He is a very handsome hero and I am sure that while watching the movie, his fans would want ‘Ra.One’ to survive instead of ‘Ga.One’.
Kareena Kapoor: Kareena is a super woman. She is born beautiful, extremely sexy and seductive.
Karan Johar: KJo is an actor, producer, director and script-writer all at a time which makes him an all-rounder. So, I feel that rather than describing him in a sci-fi term, I would advice superheroes to take lessons from him and name themselves after him.
Shahrukh Khan: I am happy and very much delighted being ‘G.One’ and thus, for now I don’t want to be someone else.
‘Ra.One’ which is considered as one of the most ambitious project of Shahrukh has been generating interest for some time now. Directed by Anubhav Sinha, the film is definitely one of the biggest films to be made in India with an unprecedented number of visual effects shots and some seriously jaw dropping stunts. The music launch of ‘Ra.One’ will be aired on Star Plus on September 18th, 2011.
