Launched today in an event in Gurgaon, Haryana, the Galaxy S4 has been priced at Rs 41500 (pretty cool, as our stimation stood at Rs 42000 and freebies). At this price the phone might make a good sale. But will it be able to topple the Canvas effect of Micromax?
The flagship Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system phone has appeared across all major stores in India. Flipkart, Saholic, Tradus, Rediff shopping, Infibeam are offering the phone at its maximim retail price. We could see a free 16 GB memory card accompanying the phone at Snapdeal only which is only for5 the first 50 customers..
Though this is less than the amount at which the Galaxy S3 was launched last year, an less than the price on other premium phon models. Yet, will this this model be able to battle it out with the low cost Canva phones, which are available at Rs 14499 (Canvas HD) and less (Canvas 2 and Canvas Viva). With these three Canvas devices in offer, Micromax has got one five-incher for three diferent price brackets. Samsung lacks this, its cheapest 5 incher, which can be called budget is the Galaxy Grand which is about Rs 20000.
Last year Micromax saw a good sales figure for Canvas phone. This year's launch of its quad-core took India by storm, and the phone could never b in stock (it also appeared in the market at a much higer cost for about a month). But, with supply snags and launch of other competitors at lower price point, things have become difficult for Micromax also. The company is expected to introduce two more new Canvas devices this year.
Let us see if the Galaxy S4 at such a high price, take a bigger share in the smartphone market this year. By this quarter end we will know who performed well- the International octa-core Android smartphone or the domestic quad-core Android smartphone.
