Whether Micromax can supply sufficient numbers of handsets in the market or not, does not matter. The company is ready with new handsets for the Indian market throughout the year.
After the huge success of Canvas 2 last year and Canvas HD this year, the domestic Android giant Micromax has decided to launch another 5-incher which will go by the name of Canvas Viva A72 , but with a price tag below the A116 Canvas HD. This will be a single-core processor clocked at 1 GHz and will run the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system (OS)! Yes you read right.
It is difficult to understand why the Company decided to go back to launch a Android 2.3 OS based phone under the Canvas name. Even the first Canvas phone the A100 benefitted from the Android 4.0 Ice cream sandwich OS. We would like to believe that the company is going to place this phone at about Rs 8500, since the A100 today costs about Rs 10399.
The Canvas Viva A72 is a dual-SIM 5 inch phone supporting a display resolution of 480 by 800. It runs on a single core processor clocked at 1 GHz supported by a 256 MB of RAM and offers internal memory of 110 MB which can be expanded. It has a 3 megapixel primary camera with 4x zoom, multi-shot mode and night mode. The phone also has a 0.3 megapixel secondary camera. This Canvas Viva will also be on a heavier side, will weigh 186g. The Canvas HD weighs only 156 g.
Now you know why this phone will be cheaper. Yet looking at the popularity of the Canvas phones, we expect this phone will be able to sell good, in spite of its low specs (when compared to other Canvas phones). The phone has been spotted at flipkart carrying a coming soon tag.
This time, we expect the company to supply good number of phones in the market, and not repeat the A116 Canvas HD buying experience with its customers.
