The Uttar Pradesh last year launched the free tablet and laptop distribution scheme for students who pass the class 10th and 12th examinations. Taking another step towards keeping the poll promise, Akhilesh Yadav led UP Government in the state has launched a website for students to track the progress in the scheme.
The Website named uplaptop-tabletdistribution.in could be accessed in Hindi and in English languages. The state government has already uploaded the tablet and laptop specifications (which are to be distributed) on the website. The website will carry a database of beneficiaries, which is yet to be uploaded. The students can look for the names by selecting name of district, Tehsil and name of the Institute.
The tablet will run on the Cortex A8 or any multi-core or Intel or equivalent or higher processor clocked at 1 GHz which is supported by a 1 GB or RAM. The tablet will run the Android 4.0 Ice cream sandwich operating system or will run on Windows.
The laptop will run on the latest generation 64-bit multi-core X86 Intel Pentium or equivalent AMD processor which will be supported by a 2 GB RAM and will offer 500 GB of storage space. This will be a dual-boot system with Windows 7 as primary boot and Linux or Ubuntu operating system as secondary boot.
In January this year the project got formal approval from the Cabinet after which the state government released order for supply of 15 lakh laptops for class 12 students in the state.
