Yes, the confusion will be there. Both the latest arrivals from the HTC and Samsung baskets are awesome and great devices. Moreover, both are placed at a small difference of Rs 1400 (the price difference is small when you look at the price of these two phones. The Galaxy S4 was launched at a price of Rs 41500 while the HTC One comes at a price of Rs 42900 in India).

The Galaxy S4 has a polycarbonate body which is durable and easier to grip. It is better than what was used in the Galaxy S3. What adds beauty to the design is a metal-looking band, which encircles the device. It has a good display and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection for its screen and yet it is visibly thin.

The HTC has made a full aluminium body phone, which looks, powerful, chic and elegant. On both front and back of the phone lightweight Aluminium is used. This phone is relaxation to the eyes and tell us how Android phones could look better.

The HTC One is powered with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 APQ8064T chip with a quad-core Krait 300 processor clocked at a speed of 1.7 GHz. The Galaxy S4 US variant sports exactly the same processor clocked at 1.9 GHz. The difference comes when we look at the variant, which has landed in India. India has received the Exynos 5 octa 5410 octa-core processor variant, which is two quad-cores together. Yet they do not cause a drain on the battery life of the phone. Of course, the Galaxy S4 stands clear winner here.

RAM and internal memory

RAM is 2 GB in both the two phones. Both of these also come in two storage/internal memory variants of 32 GB and 64 GB. However, with the S4 you can look at a possible expansion of memory using a microSD card, which is not allowed with the HTC One.

In a camera review Cnet found that a cool, colorful, and tucked-away statue stacks up arrows in a towering arrangement, looked most accurate and evenly exposed with the Galaxy S4 13 megapixel shooter. The highlights with the darker colours were lost. The ultrapixel HTC One camera gave an overexposed image with blown-out yellow, and a lot of lost highlight detail in the background. You can see the images here. But when it came to moving images like water falling from a fountain, HTC One knew well where to focus and gave the best shot. With its fast shutter speed the camera was able to freeze the falling water. In close-ups and night shot under low light conditions also the HTC One camera was the clear winner.

But with its wide list of camera features like the automatic burst mode and settings like panorama and HDR the Galaxy S4 is better this review says. It is great for everyday general purpose use.

Availability and competition

If low light photography is the criteria the Nokia Lumia 920 is also a better option which comes at a price below Rs 38000 in India. And I will save at least Rs 5000 on the deal. This Windows 8 powered phone is nice and also gives me a choice in vibrant colours which would perfect to match my style.

The HTC One though announced earlier is yet to debut in stores. While Samsung is fast enough to announce its Galaxy S4 and make it readily available the very next day. As a customer I need not wait for months for a phone.

While the One is best till date from HTC, the Galaxy S4 is the best bet of Samsung till date. Galaxy S4 has been called the best Android ever by a senior Tech Analyst at Mashable. Another Tech Editor from the same news portal has called HTC One a "refreshing change" from most Android phones.

I will fall for the octa-core version, until Micromax comes out with an Octa-core which comes to me at Rs 18000 or less. In addition, it is important to note that the Micromax quad-core comes at Rs 14499, and saves me enough for another powerful Android phone (like the Goggle Nexus 4 for a better and pure Android experience).
