Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad has the second highest number of internet users in the country, and the numbers will continue to grow, a leading expert said at a conference in the city on Saturday. He said that the online marketing business was expected to grow substantially in the coming years due to increase in number of internet users.
"Ahmedabad has the second highest number of internet users after Mumbai. The number of digital media users is on the rise, which is leading to growth in digital media marketing," Mahesh Murthy, founder of Pinstorm, said at a conference on 'Best Marketing Practices: A Vision and Strategy for Sustainable Growth' organized by Confederation of Indian Industry, in the city on Saturday.
Murthy said that the reach of social networking sites is increasing day by day. He said that there were 104 million internet users, 40 million mobile phones, 103 million cable viewers and 25 million Facebook users in the country, and "The numbers are growing by leaps and bounds."
"Today, people buy brands and not products. Businesses have started using digital media in a big way to market products and to create a brand. From Rs 1,400 crore at present, the online marketing business in India is expected to increase to more than Rs 2,000 crore in just two years," he said.
Focusing on marketing strategies, the conference stressed on marketing needs which needed to be evolved.
"The market demand is dictated by customers who have become more assertive and aspiring. Also, Indian markets are not emerging, but are evolving and shall continue to remain so," said Damodar Mall, director - food strategy, Future Group.
Yatindra Sharma, chairman, CII, Gujarat council said, "The need and psychology of customer need to be understood for marketing as it helps create the extra brand equity."
