Jaipur: If you are grumbling over the peak-hour traffic jams on city roads, blame yourself.
An independent survey conducted in major cities in India reveals two-thirds of the space on roads in Jaipur is never used for motoring.
Why? Apparently, your vehicle happens to be parked on the road severely limiting the manouverable section and encroaching upon the space actually meant for commuting!
The latest findings in study conducted by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), a non government organisation, also bust the myth that increasing road cover would actually improve commutable space and reduce congestion.
What is baffling about the report is that Jaipur features among cities with highest encroachments of parked vehicles on roads.
On an average 60 per cent stretch of the roads in Jaipur are used up for parking vehicles. This incidence is among the highest in cities surveyed by us countrywide.
