There is a belief in our society that if a person kills a snake, his/her picture is stored in his eyes, which is recognized by another snake who follows the snake killer till it bites him and takes revenge.
However, from the scientific point of view, this belief is nothing but a superstition because snakes are beings with very tiny brain, which is not even that developed to store images and take revenge.
According to science, when a snake dies, its body ejects a peculiar smell that attracts all other snakes of its tribe and they all come near the dying snake. People on the other hand misunderstand it to be other snakes coming to take revenge.

As per a Hindu ritual, snakes are fed with milk. Actually this is very wrong. According to science, snakes are flesh eating beings and eat frogs, rats, birds, eggs and other small insects. Snakes are not given anything to eat before Nag Panchamai and that is why they drink milk out of hunger. Milk is actually not good for their health as it gets inside their lungs and causes them pneumonia. Sometimes they even die because of it.

Snake charmers in India claim snakes to be dancing on the names of their instruments. This is actually misconception as snakes can’t hear. It only moves since the musical instrument moves.

Another superstation associated with snakes is that they are manidhari. This means that on top of their heads is a shiny, valuable miraculous gem. Science proves this belief too as a false one.

Some people also claim to have seen snakes with two faces. Actually this is also false. No snake has two faces.

Can some snakes fly? According to science, there are no such snakes that can fly. Though there is a species of snakes that live only on trees and move from tree to other by jumping. However, the distance between these trees is very less. So, when they jump from one tree to the other, it seems that they are flying.

Some snakes are also believed to be ‘Ichhadahri’. This means those snakes that can come into anybody’s disguise. This belief is also completely false. The concept of ‘Ichhadahri’ is made up by humans for story purposes. It has no truth in it.
