Mahabharata great love story

For history and mythology enthusiasts, this story is like a gold mine. It takes you back to the very root cause of how the story of Mahabharata actually started- long before King Shantanu met the beautiful fisherwoman Satyavati.

Satyavati was a gorgeous woman, but being a fisherwoman, had smell of fish on her body. As a result, people used to feel repelled by her. As a young girl, Satyavati use to wander in the forest; and in one such wandering, she came across the great sage Parashar.

Now, Parashar was a highly respected sage (famous for writing the first vedic text of Vishnu Puran), who had acquired many yogic powers through meditation. When they both met, sage Parashar was disturbed by the foul smell of fish coming from her body. He asked Satyavati, who ferried people across river Yamuna, to transport him across the shore so he could get away from her permanently.

Although earlier repelled by her, the charm and beauty of Satyavati captured the sage. He expressed the wish to make love with her. He told her that she was destined to give birth to a great son from their liaison. But Satyavati placed three conditions before him.
