The Parsi community of India will celebrate their biggest festival of the year on Monday and Tuesday, March 20-21. Navroz marks the begining of the Shehanshai calander, and is commemorated in the honour of King Jamshed of Iran who was a kind and honest ruler. 
 
This festival coincides with the spring equinox of March 21 when the day and night are of equal duration. This is the begining of the Persian New Year as well. 
 
Parsis pray to their prophet Zoroaster, and after a ceremonial prayer, the community lays a delectable meal on the table. The table is covered with a white cloth which indicates purity. Traditionally, the first dishes to be put on table begin with ‘sh’ and ‘sa’ that symbolise the creation of the earth.
