Mumbai:Congress General Secretary Digvijaya Singh on Thursday wrote on micro blogging site Twitter declaring Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray dead. The Cong leader later retracted his statement and apologised. 
 
Digvijaya Singh tweeted, “My condolences to Udhav and Thackeray family.” Another tweet said, “Sorry to hear about Bala Saheb's sad demise. Never accepted his Political Ideology but admired his Wit and Courage of Conviction.”

    The tweets attracted attacks from several users of Twitter. Mamata Nigam wrote, “Similar condolences to yr family too. RT.@digvijay_28 My condolences to Udhav and Thackeray family.” 
    Later, talking to reporters, Singh said he was praying for Thackeray’s health to improve. He further expressed hope that Bala Saheb will fight for his health.

    Meanwhile, Thackeray's health is said to be stable even as the entire state has been put on high alert.

    People from all walks of life arrived at Thacxkeray’s residence, Matoshree to pay visit  to the ailing Shiv Sena chief. 

    Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chavan has met senior police officials, for updates on law and order in Mumbai in wake of Thackeray's health. As the 86-year-old Shiv Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackeary is battling for his life, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, Ganesh Naik, Jayant Patil and Venugopal Dhoot and renowned filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar too visited Matoshree to see the ailing leader.
