Mumbai: Pimpri’s infamous Gangster Balu Waghere and 6 of his accomplices were Wednesday given life sentences for the 2007 murder of Kiran Suryawanshi.
A fine of Rs 13,500 was also imposed on all 7 accused by Additional sessions judge N P Dhote.
Suryawanshi was murdered because Waghere’s gang thought he had helped their rival Rakesh Bharne to get legal aid.
The rivalry between the two goes back to 2006 when Bharne split from Waghere and formed his own gang. On Sept 29, 2007 Suryavanshi was shot dead on the Bhor-Shirwal road, thereafter dumping his body in a ditch.
Police arrested Waghere and his aides at Barshi in Solapur on October 1,2007 after a massive manhunt was launched under the leadership of Inspector Bhanupratap Barge and assistant inspector Raghunath Phuge, heading the anti-extortion cell of Pune police crime branch .
