Mumbai/Pune: At a time when over two dozen death row convicts are still awaiting their execution in Yerwada Central jail, Ajmal Kasab was hanged in haste. Close to a week after Kasab was hanged, the fourth anniversary of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack passed off peacefully on Monday with high security in various areas of the city. Formalities for Kasab’s execution were done with urgent immediacy. But, the execution paper of other death row convicts are still in process, said a jail official.
Of the eight central prisons in Maharashtra, only Yerawada Central Jail and Nagpur Central Jail currently have execution facilities.
Kasab was hanged in Yerwada Central Jail five days before the fourth anniversary of the terror attack. The execution was done amidst tight secrecy and security in the jail premises.
