Maharashtra gets a new Tiger in Raj Thackeray?

Mumbai: Shiv Sena patriarch Bal Thackeray's death has put his party at crossroads.

People in the political circles are concerned about the existence of Shiv Sena without its authoritarian embodiment Sr. Thackeray, who passed away at his house Matoshree in Mumbai on Saturday.

Though the sympathy wave migt turn in favour of Uddhav, his newphew Raj seems to be the only one who is sitting pretty.

Also, since all Opposition parties in Maharashtra lack a leader of Balasaheb's stature, it's Raj and only Raj all the way.

It doesn't have any mass leader, especially after the death of Vilasrao Deshmukh. While Deshmukh enjoyed mass support, senior Congress leaders in Maharashtra such as Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan are not even aware of local issues. A list-less Congress doesn't appear to be in a position to take advantage of Sena's troubles to recharge its cadres.

It doesn't have a leader of Bal Thackeray's stature. Sharad Pawar is considered a mass leader, but his illness has hampered his speech. And in recent years, he has lost much of his political clout. His nephew Ajit Pawar and daughter Supriya Sule run the show, but they don't come close to the wily Pawar. A weakened Sena won't help NCP.

Thackeray's son and Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav doesn't command the mass polularity or influence on state politics that Balasaheb enjoys. Considered a softie, Uddhav has tried to project a tough image by making some bold statements but doesn't come anywhere close to his firebrand father. Uddhav's son Aditya has also failed to impress.

    MNS
It's the only party that is sitting pretty. Its chief, Balasaheb's nephew Raj Thackeray, is cut in the mould of his uncle and is a crowd puller. Since he grew out of his uncle's shadow and formed MNS, he has gone from strength to strength. The fiery Raj can get filmmakers change their scripts and the government to turn blind when his supporters go on the rampage.
