Bhopal: The 61-year-old passport agent Abu Bakr, who has been accused by the CID of helping an alleged terrorist in procuring a passport, was granted bail by a district court here on Tuesday.  However, the court refused to grant bail to two passport officers accused in the same case.

Abu Bakr was granted bail on a bond of Rs 25,000, and on a surety that he would have to appear before local police twice a month. Bakr was also asked to seek court’s permission if he had to leave the city.

The travel agent was arrested along with a local school teacher Subhash Vyas in helping Sameer Khan Pathan procuring an Indian passport with active connivance of passport officials. Pathan, who was allegedly on a mission to kill Gujarat CM Narendra Modi, was shot dead by the Ahmedabad city Crime branch in October 2002.

The passport was obtained in the name of Nawab Khan Haiyyatkhan Pathan, and was used to visit Pakistan in January 1998.
