Bhopal: After holding talks with the commissioner of higher education VS Niranjan on Monday afternoon, University officers have deferred their proposed indefinite strike for three months. The decision was made after a written assurance was given by VC Nisha Dubey on demands including allowances at par with government officers, posting in universities other than unified universities, promotion to the vacant posts of registrars, timescale pay, appointment of university officers as examination controller and not posting officers from other state services in universities.

“The commissioner assured that decisions for all these matters would be taken within two to three months. We have thus decided to defer the strike for three months,” said B Bharti, general secretary of the MP University Services Officers Association.

The Barkatullah University on Monday however deferred more examinations taking in view the ongoing strike by the non-teaching staffs. The BSc nursing part 1, 2, 3 and 4, post basic BSc nursing course part 1 and 2 (scheduled from December 11), BPT and BHMS exams scheduled from December 12 and BEd exams scheduled from December 15 have been deferred.

In the meanwhile, a delegation of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyathi Parishad (ABVP), led by Vishnudutt Sharma, met the vice-chancellor of Barkatullah University (BU), Nisha Dubey and informed her about the problems the students who affected by the strike in the university.

The indefinite strike by the non-teaching staffs of the state-run universities entered the eighth day. The non-teaching staffs plan to continue their strike as their talks with the department have not yet borne fruit.

The VC assured the ABVP group of steps to be taken to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
