Bhopal: To replicate the success of a pilot project in Jhusi near Allahabad, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhopal, has approached the Madhya Pradesh government for financial support to set up a gaushala to tackle non-hazardous bio-medical waste.
The project entails filing of landfills with bio-medical waste (after sterilization) and mixing it with manure generated from about 100 to 200 cows on site. Once full, the landfills will be converted into farm land with vegetables like capsicum, tomato, brinjals grown over it.
According to AIIMS Bhopal director Dr Sandeep Kumar, "Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's response was very positive."
The proposal entails an initial investment of Rs 1 crore.
