Bhopal: Students' attendance in colleges affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV) has suddenly leapt by nearly 20 per cent, courtesy a new addition to the varsity's web portal.
In a bid to check absenteeism, the RGPV has asked all colleges to submit in a section of its portal the attendance of every student per semester.
According to the norms of the university, all students must have a minimal attendance of 75 per cent to sit in exams. And the submission of attendance details in the RGPV web portal has forced students to attend classes regularly.
Just 10 days after the varsity issued the diktat, attendance in several colleges has surged from 5-20 per cent.
Arun Sachdeva, Dean, Oriental Group of Institutes, told Dainik Bhaskar that within a week [of the new rule being enforced] attendance in classes had increased to 90 per cent from 70 per cent.
He also expressed hope that students will now attend classes regularly.
