Indore:Owing to serious irregularities and fund embezzlement detected in the Khasgi Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Charity Trust, other trusts owned by the scions of erstwhile rulers of Holkar state came under the administration's scanner.
Registrar of public trusts Sharad Kshotriya revealed that the properties listed under other trusts of which Satish Malhotra and his wife Usha Raje Holkar are trustees, were also sold off by the trustees without obtaining any clearance from the government.
“After independence the ownership rights of the Holkar state properties passed onto the government and even those listed under public trusts cannot be treated as personal property", he pointed out.
The matter came to the fore when Khasgi trust sold one of the busiest ghats in Har-Ki-Pauri -the 'Kushavart ghat-- to a party for Rs. 5-crore in Haridwar. Though the deal had taken place in 2009, it came to light recently when the buyers of the property applied for its mutation in their names.
This revelation spun off a series of events with the Uttrakhand government not only ordering an enquiry into the deal but its chief secretary writing to the Madhya Pradesh government to recommend a CBI probe.
Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Educational Trust is another trust which the state government is contemplating to scrutinize.
Maharaja Yeshwant Rao Holkar had formed a trust on April 20, 1950. Usha Raje, the sole beneficiary after the death of her father Yeshwant Rao enjoyed the trust properties as per the provisions of the deed.
On behalf of herself and her children, she created a new trust, Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Educational Trust, Indore in 1973 and transferred her interests in the trust properties
