Indore: Over two dozen fifth and seventh semester students of the Malwa Institute of Technology (MIT) were made to sit on knees and rub their nose against the floor by the college officials as punishment for their short attendance in the semester on Wednesday.

The students said that the college management refused to forward their examination forms to the RGPV (MIT is affiliated to the technological university) citing their low attendance. However, the college director called the parents and asked the defaulting students to rub their nose on the floor before him. Only after that he would forward their exam forms to the RGPV, the director told the students and parents.

"Students were made to do so but with consent of their parents. We gave two options to the parents for allowing the students to appear in the examination--either they give guarantee of their ward's attendance in future or the students rub their nose on the floor. With these two options we allowed them to appear in the exam," said MIT chief administrative officer Ankit Saxena.

However, MP Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) believes it is a blatant violation of human rights.

"If this has happened this is a clear case of human rights violation. Any form of physical punishment is violation to human rights. We will take cognizance on it if we receive any complaints," said MPHRC joint director, public relation, Rohit Mehta.

Parents alleged that the director used abusive language against them.
