Indore: Agitated over the unfulfilled promise of the college management of ensuring 100% placement, engineering students of Indore Institute of Science and Technology (IIST) staged a demonstration on the college campus on Wednesday.
Engineering students of all branches and semesters protested against the inability of the college in calling companies for the placement drive alleging that hardly 1% students have been placed till the end of February.
NSUI general secretary Arshad Khan who led the protest said, “There are nearly 800 students in the final year across all branches of BE at IIST but only 30 students have been placed so far in the campus drive where only a single company participated".
Students claimed that the college charges nearly Rs 20,000 as placement fees from students during their four year course, which is against the norm of the Admission and Fee Regularity Committee (AFRC).
“The college takes Rs 5,500 per student per year as placement fee but the outcome is nil," Arshad said.
Students and NSUI activists blocked the movement of college buses and shouted slogans against the college, demanding that the management should come out and speak to students directly.
However, the college management handed over a written letter to in-house students stating that 10-15 companies will hold the campus placement drive in the next fifteen days.
Students also alleged that the college charges various kinds of fees as compulsion.
"The college charged Rs 4,400 as tour fees and promised to take us for and industrial visit but the year has completed and nothing has been done so far," claimed students.
