Indore: A woman of a well-off family lodged a dowry harassment complaint against her husband and in-laws at Khajrana police station on Saturday evening.

In her complaint, Shivani Shukla, a resident of Goyal Vihar Colony, alleged that her husband Hitesh and in-laws Ghanshyam and Anuradha Shukla were harassing her for dowry since she got married to Hitesh on December 9, 2009. Shivaji is a native of Gwalior. Her husband Hitesh is a scientist at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC, Mumbai) and her father-in-law Ghanshyam is an assistant engineer at Indore Development Authority (IDA).

Shivani claimed that her husband's family members allegedly tortured her for dowry. They used to reason that Hitesh is their only son and thus Shivani should bring more cash from her parents to buy a car and a house.

The complainant further stated that she is also the only daughter of their parents. Her father, Rakesh Sharma, a government officer in Gwalior, gave everything he promised in the marriage. The accused, however, continued demanding cash and when the complainant showed her helplessness in fulfilling their demand, they forced her to leave the house.

The victim finally called his father and lodged a dowry harassment complaint against her husband and in-laws. She also alleged that her husband and in-laws gave her life threats.

A complaint has been registered under Section 498-A, 506 and 34 of the IPC and of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961. No arrest was made till filling the report. Khajrana Police are conducting further investigations into the case.
