Raipur: The construction work of the new terminal building of the Mana Airport is going on in full swing. Almost half of the sprawling new lounge is complete and the officials say that the work will be completed by the end of this year.
The terminal being built at a whopping cost of Rs 143 crore will have all the state-of-the-art facilities. The work of the new terminal building was to be completed by December 2010, however, it was delayed due various reasons.
Though the Airport Authority of India (AAI) officials have not set a new deadline for the completion of the project, the work is likely to be completed by December 2011.
The terminal’s main building is complete and landscaping work inside the premises the terminal is nearing completion.
The entrance gate of the new terminal is twice the length of the old one. The work on the new waiting hall is almost complete. The swanky new waiting lounge will provide passengers a clear view of aircrafts taking off and arriving on the tarmac.
With security being a prime concern, the AAI has also decided to construct two high rise security towers. CISF guards will man these towers round the clock. Apart from that, CCTV being installed around the main airport building and across the premises will also keep a close watch on the activities in and around the airport.
The new terminal will be centrally conditioned. The work on installing high capacity air conditions is about to be completed.
The car parking at the Mana Airport will be one biggest available at Indian airports. The parking will have facility for nearly 500 vehicles.
South African roof
The new terminal will be fitted with roof imported from South Africa. Work on installing the special roof is going on in full swing. This special roof will keep the terminal considerably cool from inside by not allowing the heat to pass inside. It will also provide a clear picture of outside.
Escalators, luggage routes
Passengers will have a direct access to aircrafts from the terminal building through the three escalators currently being installed. Apart from that two luggage routes are also being developed for smooth passage of passenger luggage from the lounge to the terminal.
Hanger shaped shopping mall
A new shopping mall is also coming up outside the new terminal building. Engineers have given the upper part of the mall a shape similar to that of an aircraft’s hangar. Outlets selling artifacts depicting Chhattisgarh’s art and culture will be opened in the mall apart from other branded shops.
