Kolkata: In a path breaking judgment, The Calcutta High Court on Monday ordered 17 Kolkata doctors including former West Bengal medical council members to stand trial for criminal conspiracy in 1998 Anuradha Saha medical negligence case. Anuradha Saha's husband Kunal Saha, who has been fighting this case since 1998, expressed happiness over the decision. These doctors conspired to save the culprits, he said.
Among those who will face trial is West Bengal medical council former president Dr Ashok Chowdhury. One of the three Kolkata doctors accused of medical negligence in the case is Dr Sukumar Mukherjee, who is now 'chief adviser' of health for the Mamata Banerjee government.
Kunal expressed hope that this ruling will pave the way for transparency in the medical profession. Medical Council must be transparent and honest and should not be shielding negligent doctors, he said.
