New Delhi: After failing to protect Sarabjit Singh in jail, Pakistani authorities have decided to snub India again. Indian consulate officials have been denied access to Sarabjit.
Consulate officials wanted to meet Sarabjit and inquire about his health. They were allowed access yesterday, but this move by Pakistan has surprised everyone.
According to media reports, Pakistani authorities claimed that hospital staff members were not informed of the visit which resulted in this situation.
Further, doctors looking after Sarabjit don’t want many visitors as this exposes the patient to infections, say experts.
It was immediately not clear what action India will take in this regard. 49-year-old Sarabjit is currently in a coma and on ventilator in an ICU in Jinnah Hospital. Doctors have been working to revive him since he was attacked in Kot Lakhpat Jail on Friday. His skull was fractured and he sustained injuries to his face, neck and torso during the assault.
Given the seriousness of Sarabjit's medical condition, two officials from Indian High Commision sought further access to him which was denied by the Pakistani authorities.
Sarabjit was convicted for alleged involvement in a string of bombings in Pakistan's Punjab that killed 14 people in 1990.
