New Delhi:The Congress has removed Shashi Tharoor from his post as AICC spokesperson, with immediate effect.
After the news surfaced, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor issued a statement which said that he accepts party's decision and he is a loyal party worker.
In a press statement signed by Congress leader Janardhan Dwivedi, the party said on Monday that party president Sonia Gandhi had accepted the recommendation of the AICC disciplinary committee to remove Shashi Tharoor from the list of spokespersons of the AICC with immediate effect.
The KPCC had submitted a complaint in this regard as Tharoor had praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi several times in the past, had written editorials in his favour, and had also praised the Swachh Bharat campaign.
BJP leader Subramanian Swamy however, said that the Congress was trying to distance itself from Tharoor before the inquiry into Sunanda Pushkar’s death embarrassed the party.
The three-member panel of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) report had claimed that traces of poison were found in Congress leader Shashi Tharoor's wife Sunanda Pushkar's body at the time of her death. AIIMS doctors are claiming that the report reaffirms their stand on the report that they gave after Pushkar's death. AIIMS doctors also said that police should probe further and seek help from foreign agencies to find out the type of poison found in the body.
