State-of-the-art INS Trikhand all set to sail Indian waters

New Delhi/ Moscow: The induction of Russian-made stealth frigate, INS Trikhand has given a major boost to the arsenal of Indian Navy. The vessel was commissioned on Saturday by Vice Admiral R.K. Dhowan, vice chief of the naval staff, in Kaliningrad in Russia.
The commissioning of the vessel was being termed as an important milestone in Indo-Russian military technology cooperation.
According to a press release, "The commissioning of INS Trikand marks the culmination of a three ship contract for  
"Follow On Talwar Class" ships built in Russia and was a milestone in the Indo-Russian military-technological cooperation."
Russia and India signed a $1.6 billion contract on the construction of three modified Krivak III class (also known as Talwar class) guided missile frigates for India in 2006.
As per the contract, INS Teg and INS Tarkash were already commissioned last year and are now undergoing operation as part of the western fleet, reported agencies.

The state-of-the-art vessel has the capabilities to carry several missiles, including eight supersonic Brahmos missile system. It also possess, advanced surface-to-air missiles Shtil, upgraded A190 medium range gun, electro-optical 30 mm close-in weapon system, anti-submarine weapons such as torpedoes and rockets and an advanced electronic warfare system.
Trial runs were conducted from February 5 to March 14. The ship would be inducted in Indian Navy's western fleet.
