Jodhpur: A local court on Thursday granted permission to sacked Rajasthan minister Mahipal Maderna, key accused in the Bhanwari Devi abduction and murder case, to avail treatment at a private hospital. Admitting his prayer, the ACJM (SC/ST) Court permitted him to be treated in a private hospital of the city.
Maderna had moved an application in the court yesterday suspecting dengue fever and had sought permission of the court for such treatment. The CBI, however, objected to this prayer and argued in the court that if the jail administration expresses its inability to treat him in prison, then he may proceed further. "There is a procedure by which, on refusal of the jail doctors, he has the path of approaching government hospitals. And if they also express their inability to treat him with the given facilities with them, then only he can approach a private hospital," CBI special counsel Ejaz Khan argued.
Rejecting the investigating agency's arguments, magistrate Girish Kumar Sharma allowed Maderna to get himself checked and treated at Trinity Hospital of the city. Earlier, another accused in the case Malkhan Singh Bishnoi had undergone surgery for Hernia at a private hospital in Jaipur.
The court is yet to read out the charges against him as he did not appear before it today as well. Meanwhile, the ACJM (CBI Cases) court refused to hear the arguments on a petition filed by accused Indra Bishnoi in her absence. She has objected to the procedure adopted in announcing her a proclaimed absconder and the order to attach and auction her property. The court listed the matter for November 26 and asked Bishnoi's counsel to first produce her before it so that the hearing can proceed.
