New quota call will spark fresh unrest in Rajasthan: BJP

Jaipur: Leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party have alleged that the government’s decisions and stand on quota will bring unrest in the state and that it is playing with the fire of reservation.
Former BJP MP Ramdas Agrawal alleged that the government’s decision is not the correct solution for the reservation problem. He said that the saffron party earlier had come up with a prefect solution and its reservation bill was approved unanimously in the Assembly. Had Congress implemented BJP’s formula, the problem of reservation would have ended permanently in the state, he stated.
“The then BJP government passed the bill in Assembly in 2008 to give 5% reservation to special backward class (SBC) and 14% to economically-backward class (EBC). It was a balanced bill because although we were exceeding the limit, we were at the same time giving 14% reservation to ECB to all the communities,” BJP MP Ramdas Agrawal.
“Who will tolerate deduction in their quota? They have given 5 per cent to SBC from general category and why they will tolerate. The government must have given 14 per cent EBC reservation to balance their deduction in general category,” he added.
He alleged that the reservation bill during BJP’s regime was deliberately not forwarded to Delhi by the then governor.
“It was Congress government at that time. We had paid so many visits to him but he didn’t forward the bill to New Delhi due to his party’s pressure. Had he forwarded at that time, problem of reservation would have come to an end forever in Rajasthan,” said Agarwal.
