Jaipur: Private schools of Jaipur district heaved a sigh of relief as the education department has decided to reimburse fees of 6,000 students, who were earlier found admitted against the RTE norms. The department had conducted a re-verification campaign recently during which wrong admissions were verified again according to the new guidelines.
Notably, of the total 23,088 admissions under the Act in 2,900 private schools of Jaipur, only 10,426 were found valid while the remaining 12,662 were considered against the norms. Following this, the department had decided not to reimburse the fees of wrong admissions.
Later, protests and complaints were reported by various school authorities demanding to consider their admissions or else they would suspended the students. The department then decided to conduct the re-verification of the admissions with new guidelines. Now, total admissions have increased from 10,426 to 16,446 after the verifications process, 6,000 more than the previous figure.
“The total number of admissions in private schools of Jaipur district has now reached 16,446, which was earlier only 10, 426 after the re-verification process,” said SC Meena, outgoing district education officer (elementary), Jaipur district.
A department official said they are now in the process of fee reimbursement and procuring account number of the schools to transfer the money.
“We will reimburse the fees by February 28, for which, we are taking bank account numbers of schools. However, schools are still sending admi-ssion details, which may also be considered later,” he said.
