New Delhi:The humiliating Test series defeat against England and ODI series loss against Pakistan had drawn immense criticism against Team India – the recently crowned World Cup winners. But, as England returned for the ODI series against MS Dhoni’s men, a sudden shift of momentum was not hard to notice.
After Irfan Pathan’s struggling form, the need for a genuine all-rounder in the Indian squad had become a major necessity. This was the time, when the left-handed Ravindra Jadeja was shining way too bright in the Ranji Trophy for his domestic team Saurashtra.
Realizing his potential, MS Dhoni and the selectors brought him to play for the Indian squad during the ODI series against Pakistan. Though he played two ODIs, Jadeja’s contribution was hard to avoid. The Saurashtra player took four important wickets and scored 40 runs for his team.
After the Pakistan series, he was brought in for the ongoing ODI tourney against England. And, this time Jadeja ensured that the selectors realize his potential as a genuine all-rounder.
The left-hander bludgeoned the English opponents with his scintillating performances both with the bat and bowl. His knock of 61 runs and bowling spell of 2/12 had guided Team India to an emphatic win against England at Kochi. It also helped the left-hander win the Man of the Match award. In the four ODIs so far in the series, Jadeja has taken 8 wickets and scored 116 runs for his team.
Pleased by his performance, the Indian skipper MS Dhoni has revealed that the team has finally found a “perfect” bowling all-rounder in Ravindra Jadeja. He said India was struggling for a bowling all-rounder with the only option being Irfan Pathan, but in Jadeja the team had found a suitable answer.
One hopes, for Team India’s sake, Jadeja maintains his consistency with the bat and ball.
