New Delhi: Hafeez Saeed the main perpetrator of 2008 Mumbai attacks is not only roaming freely in the streets of Pakistan, but is also yielding considerable influence in ht e corridors of power in Pakistan Politics. At a recently concluded All Parties conference attended by the big-wigs of Pakistan’s politics including Hafeez Saeed called for a ban on the recently released anti-Islam film in US.
The party members were asking for a ban on the anti-Islam film or else they would block the supply lines of NATO to US troops. The founder of Jamiat-i-Islami, Hafeez Saeed attended the meeting along with prominent hard-line politicians of Pakistan.
The fact that he was a part of the group representing a prominent political gathering says a lot about the kind of liberty and leverage enjoyed by the mass murderer of 174 lives lost on the eve of 28 November 2008.
Hafeez Mohammad Saeed attended the gathering along with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Gen (retd) Hamid Gul, Sheikh Rasheed, Maulana Samiul Haq, Qazi Hussain Ahmed and Maulana Ahmed Ludhianvi.
Lashkar-e-Taiba an outright militant organization was banned by US post 9/11 in 2002 by the former President of Pakistan, Pervez Musharraf.
Hafeez Saeed main agenda has been fighting the Indian forces in Kashmir. Apart from that he is involved in organizing and supporting the Shia-Sunni conflict in Pakistan. He is known to have carried out attacks against the minority Shia sect in Pakistan. Consequently he enjoys a considerable backing by the hard-line Sunni section of the society.
His presence in the meeting should raise serious concern for the Indian government who are trying to bring those responsible for the Mumbai attack to justice.
