Chandigarh: The sale of the brochures of 160 flats, which would come up at Sector 51A, began on Monday, with the sell of 70 of them on the first day itself.
The brochures, which cost Rs 1,000 each, can be bought from Axis Bank branches in Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali.
The forms for these flats need to be submitted in Axis Bank by January 13, 2011.
The Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) has kept the price of the two-bedroom flats in between Rs 47.39 lakh and Rs 50.65 lakh.
It is after three years that the CHB has launched a self-financing scheme for the general category. Earlier, the CHB had in 2007 invited applications for self-financing housing scheme in Sector 63.
Though the draw of the scheme has been declared, the construction work for the same is yet to begin due to several issues such as border dispute with Mohali, environment clearance from the Centre and non-clearance of the map by the architecture department.
The housing board plans to declare the draw for the 160 flats in Sector 51A by June 2012. The layout plan for the housing scheme has already been approved and the draw will begin February 2011 itself. Owing to its size, the scheme does not require environment clearance as well.
Bidding will be invited only for 16 of the 160 flats for an advance of Rs 10 lakh will have to be deposited.
A person can fill more than one form for the scheme as well. Moreover, two or even more members of a family can fill the forms separately.
However, local Janata Party president Ajay Jugga slammed the pricing of the brochure at Rs 1,000. He cited the examples of Mhada and DDA scheme brochures that cost Rs 100 and Rs 105 each respectively.
He accused the board of violating the norms of the consumer protection act.
