Delhi: NDMC engineer burns BTech daughter-in-law, 13-month-old baby for dowry
New Delhi: In yet another incident where dowry menacy claimed a young life, a BTech graduate succumbed to injuries on Wednesday, a week ago by her husband and in-laws at their Sarojini Nagar house.
According to a report published in an English daily, the 25-year-old young Pravartika Gupta was burnt along with her 13-month-old baby for dowry. The baby girl, who suffered 55 per cent burn injuries, is stated to be critical.
According to neighbours, Pravartika was burnt on October 6 following a heated argument at their flat in the NDMC Apartments in Sarojini Nagar.
Victim's family has demanded justice for their daughter. The family took to Facebook and wrote: "This profile has been made to seek justice for our beloved Pravartika Gupta. Married to Ashutosh Gupta, she and her 1 year old daghter was burnt on 6 october."
The deceased, a BTech graduate from Aligarh Muslim University, got married to Ashutosh, who is a manager in an event management company in Gurgaon.
What is more surprising is the fact that Pravartika's father-in-law Ram Mohan Gupta is an assistant engineer with NDMC. Police has arrested woman's mother-in-law while both the father-son duo is still at large.
The victim's father alleged that the accused family had demanded Rs 10 lakh as dowry. Despite Pravartika's father paying Rs 6 lakh in cash, the harassment continued and October 6 she was burnt by her in-laws.
Pravartika's husband is a manager in an event manager company in Gurgaon.
