Movie Review Happy New Year: Treat for Shah Rukh Khan’s fans
Shah Rukh Khan is back on the big screen after a gap of one year, and the superstar’s fans are definitely in for a treat. Happy New Year is definitely Shah Rukh Khan’s best film in last couple of years. The film, however, lacks on several fronts, Shah Rukh Khan pulls it off with his amazing intensity. From the first shot to the climax, it’s just about Srk (aka Charlie).
You will also find similarities to the superstar’s earlier films including Chak De, Chennai Express, and even Ra.one. Even director Farah Khan has picked SRK’s famous dialogues from his previous films, and given a twist. For instance, during a fight sequence, SRK says, “Badi badi fights mein, thodi thodi maar toh padti rahti hai.”
How is Shah Rukh Khan in the film?
After long time, we saw people standing up and cheering in a Shah Rukh Khan film. The scene where he flaunts his 8-pack-abs will give an opportunity to his fans to whistle. Also, he is acting with full intensity in this one, something was missing in his recent films.
For SRK critics or not-so-SRK-fans, Happy New Year might seem a bit too much to handle. Overall the film goes from being unintentionally funny, occasionally idiotic and irritating often; thanks to Abhishek Bachchan (aka Nandu) and Sonu Sood (aka Jagmohan Prakash)’s presence in the film.
How is Deepika Padukone in the film?
We felt that Deepika (aka Mohini) was forced into the film just for the glamour. The film could have been made even without the diva. For all those who are expecting chemistry between Deepika and Abhishek, get ready to get disappointment.
How is the direction?
No one understands Shah Rukh Khan better than Farah Khan, and his fans would tell you that Farah has got the best out of him in Happy New Year. Also, the direction has many loopholes, so were there in Main Hoon Na and Om Shanti Om. The intense part of the film is any day better than the fun part. Also, there are a few sequences in the film, which doesn't sync, and look inappropriate. Patriotism looks forced and unnecessary. Abhishek Bachchan, who looks identical to Jackie Shroff’s son, performs openly in the climax and nobody recognizes him. Story too is a bit confused.
How is the music?
Music of the film is enjoyable if not remarkable. Lovely is already the hot favorite of all dance lovers, and India Wale is all set to become the next patriotic anthem.
BIG QUESTION- Should I watch Happy New Year?
Happy New Year is undoubtedly Shah Rukh Khan’s best film in recent times, and must watch for all SRK fans.
